Some of the reasons I am opposed to this travesty of an immigration bill

 First the caveats:

a) I have not yet read the entire bill, I have read only the first 100 pages – therefore this list is not complete and it is possible that I have missed some things

b) I have always scored in the 95 plus percentile on every “intelligence” test I have ever taken, but I have never been a lawyer or a politician – therefore, although I have tried to give this document careful scrutiny, it is possible that I have missed something or misunderstood something

With those in mind, the reasons (so far) that I am against this CAA-CAA bill (Criminal Alien Abettors, Cabal Against America [United States of]) are:

1) It has almost 7 pages of index (790 pages long but they originally tried to push it through in three days)

2) In each of the fiscal years 2008 through 2012, the Secretary shall, subject to the availability of appropriations, increase by not less than 500 the number of positions for full-time active duty port of entry inspectors and provide appropriate training, equipment, and support to such additional inspectors. (pg. 9) [‘Subject to the availability of appropriations’ to me means that nobody is ready to guarantee funding - i.e. the 700 mile fence was approved and signed, still haven't seen it]

3) In addition to the positions authorized under section 5203 of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, as amended by sub-paragraph (A), during each of the fiscal years 2008 through 2012, the Secretary shall, subject to the availability of appropriations, increase by not less than 200 the number of positions for personnel within the Department assigned to investigate alien smuggling. (pg.10) [same comment as 1)]

4) In each of the fiscal years 2008 through 2012, the Attorney General shall, subject to the availability of appropriations, increase by not less than 50 the number of positions for full-time active duty Deputy United States Marshals that investigate criminal matters related to immigration. (pg. 10) [same comment as 1)]

5) to develop a mechanism that is acceptable to the governments of Belize, Guatemala, Mexico, the United States, and other appropriate countries to notify such a government if an individual suspected of gang activity will be deported to that country prior to the deportation and to provide support for the reintegration of such deportees into that country (pg. 34) [sounds to me like this means we need permission from the deportee’s home country BEFORE we can deport – WHY???]

6) In developing the plan required by subsection (a), the Secretary shall consider— (4) effective utilization of— (A) visas for victims of trafficking and other crimes; (pg 35) [I read this as saying that if somebody is smuggled into the U.S., i.e. a victim of trafficking, he/she shall be considered for a visa anyway – WHY???]

7) SEC. 116. DEATHS AT UNITED STATES-MEXICO BORDER. - (a) COLLECTION OF STATISTICS.—The Commissioner of the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection shall collect statistics relating to deaths occurring at the border between the United States and Mexico, including— (1) the causes of the deaths; and (2) the total number of deaths. (pg 36) [I didn’t see any such provision requiring statistics to be collected regarding the serious crimes committed against U.S. citizens BY these illegal aliens i.e. murders, drunk driving, rape, child molestation, gang activity, etc…]

8) CONSULTATION REQUIREMENT.—Federal, State, and local representatives in the United States shall consult with their counterparts in Mexico concerning the construction of additional fencing and related border security structures along the international border between the United States and Mexico, as authorized by this title, before the commencement of any such construction (pg 38) [again, we need permission from a foreign country in order to build fences along our borders – WHY????]

9) The Secretary of Homeland Security can waive the requirement for biometric data for “an individual alien or a class of aliens. (pg. 48) [so basically, the Secretary of Homeland Security can waive the entire requirement for biometric data for all aliens coming across our southern borders??]

10) Many, many loopholes to prevent the building of the fence (pp. 49, 50, 51) [no explanation required here]

11) Beginning on October 1, 2008, an alien (other than a national of Mexico) who is attempting to illegally enter the United States and who is apprehended at a United States port of entry or along the international land and maritime border of the United States shall be detained until removed (pg. 55) – [largest group of illegal aliens (Mexicans) excluded – WHY??]

12) A lot of penalties of “not more than” ZZ years, but none that are “Not less than” ZZ years. [i.e. every penalty could be reduced to 0 years].

13) A State may not require an individual to include the individual’s citizenship status on a driver’s license. (pg. 73) [how will we keep non-citizens from voting in our elections]

14) $50,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2008 through 2012 – to supplement local communities affected by illegal aliens (pg 87) [why not just use that money to INCREASE border enforcement with more agents, fences, virtual fences, etc.. to STOP the illegal aliens at the border]

15) Nowhere does it say “An alien here, illegally, will be detained until deportation.” This game of catch and release has to end. If a person is suspected of being here illegally, place that individual in a holding facility until confirmation. Once confirmed to be illegal, straight to prison or deportation (depending on the crime committed). No sob stories, no character references – they are not citizens and they have no right to clog up our court system fighting deportation .

Presidente Jorge Bush, 10/26/2006 – “This bill will help protect the American people. This bill will make our borders more secure. It is an important step toward immigration reform.” Referring to the Secure Fence Act of 2006 (authorization for 700 miles of fence along U.S. border with mexico).

Whitehouse press release on 10/26/2006 – “Comprehensive Immigration Reform Begins With Securing (emphasis added) The Border”

Worthless George Allen

In trying to look "Presidential" or like a gentleman, George Allen threw away the efforts of all the people that worked on his campaign, threw away all the votes of the people that took the time to go out a cast a vote for him, and threw away all of the money that was donated to his campaign.  I agree that he should not have "Al Gored" the election by trying to count only beneficial districts, however it was not too much to ask that every vote be recounted just to verify the count.  A football analogy - it is the last 5 seconds of the game and the opponent is ahead by 5 pts.  You are on the opponent's 1 yard line, what do you do?  1) Punt  2) Just take a knee and let the time run out  or 3) attempt to score a touchdown.  If you are not willing to even attempt to win, don't bother looking for my support during your next campaign.

Lincoln Chafee is leaving the GOP??

It would be very good riddance.  As far as I can tell, he has never been a part of the GOP.  Basically, the GOP sent money down the sewer every time they sent money to assist him in his elections.  If that money had been spent in Missouri instead, maybe the GOP would still have control of the Senate (my guess is that if Chafee HAD won and it ended up a 50-50 tie, he would have followed the example of Jumpin Jim Jeffords anyway).  The GOP needs to stop sending money up to the RINOS and concentrate on getting some conservatives elected.
